One cannot openly
and freely visualize politics and religion through films in India and because
of this I do not involve such in my films, said Buddhadeb Das Gupta. He
was talking at the press conference held on the third day of 18th IFFK at the festival office. ‘In India we could only make
Political movies by portraying them as Gods. I cannot compromise my stand of
looking at different aspects of an issue and create alternate realities.
In fact
“Criticism on films is only another opinion, if it is taken democratically”,
remarked Buddhadeb Das Gupta while answering a question regarding the
censorship of films. It is difficult to take sensitive films in India with the
prevailing and ongoing texture of system’, he added.
While
speaking about the impact made by films having low cast and crew can have
access in the international scenario he opinioned in a serious note.“A good
cinema is never silent”, Malayalam film ‘Marana
Simhasanam’ by Mularai Nair,
which won the Golden Camera award and screened in the ‘Un Certain Regard’
category at the 1999 Cannes Film festival is the greatest example of this, he
opined.
Gupta
expressed his gratitude towards audience for his film ‘Sniffer’, which was
greatly received at the theater. ‘Sinffer’ had its Indian Premier at the festival,
on Saturday. ‘I never allowed the interference of others into my work’, he
opened up.
Films are a
better way to express complex subjects rather than plays opined new generation
Kannada director Pawan kumar, who was also attending the press conference. He
also detailed about how much social media can be utilized to produce and
promote films. His latest Film, ‘Lucia’ is a good Example for this he added. ‘I
love to be known as a story teller and I always find my subjects from the
happenings around me ‘, he said.
