Second Round Table Conference on
South Asian Children’s Film held at Hycinth hotel, concluded. The two day-long
conference was part of the initiative to promote children films in South Asian
nations and it has been associated with IFFK from last year. The round table
was attended by representatives from all over south Asia.
Dhammika Dissanayaka, representative of Asian
Film Centre (Sri Lankan branch), revealed that detailed proposal has been
submitted to the Sri Lankan government to incept a Multi National Film Festival
in Sri Lanka from next year. He also added that Asian Film Centre is planning
to take screenings of Children Films in schools through-out the country.
Aruna Vasudev, president of
NETPAC (network for Promotion of Asian Cinema), commented that film festivals
should have discussions and such other sessions which will help others to
understand deeply about cinema. She also praised IFFK for organizing such
sessions. Speaking about films in general, Aruna opined that films should have
the ability to communicate to the audience and should increase their enthusiasm
to know about the subject.
The general feeling of the
conference on the Indian cinema was that it is over dominated by the Bollywood
films and it is really hard to change this phenomenon. The members of the
meeting also expressed their overall feeling of having more festivals focusing
on children films and felt that the currently existing festivals should have
packages of children films.
The conference was attended by Rustam
Vania, Michael Joseph, Kathy Loizon, Golda nellam, Catherine Masad, Batu, Susan
Benn, Joshy Mathew,Sannette Naeye, Mahamayo Dinanayak, Sannette, Mallika Aryal,
Arun Gupta and Roy Mathew. Monisha Wahi coordinated the meeting.
