“Zinda Bhaag is the film that fosters
Indo-Pak relations”, remarked the film’s producer and documentarian Mazhar Zaidi.
He was speaking at the press conference on the sixth day of 18th
IFFK. Zaidi expressed his happiness on the selection of the film as Pakistan’s
nomination for Oscars, first time in the last five decades, in the category of
best foreign language film.
The producer also said that this film was
only possible because of the extended support he received from Indians,
including veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. The film crew, including people from
both nations, created a bonding and stage for cultural exchange, he added. “And
this made me believe that cinema has the potential to do what other medium
can’t”, expressed Zhaidi. Zinda Bhaag is in the World Cinema section of the
festival.
Mazhar Zaidi was very optimistic about the
new trends and changes happening in the Pak film industry. He revealed his
happiness for the young filmmakers who are approaching films with a new and
different approach and focusing on realities of day to day life.
Famous documentarian and director Sanjeev
Sivan briefed about his film, ‘Venal Odungaathe’, as a realistic portrayal of
the fight undergone by two old age couples. “In my life as a documentarian, I
met many people in real life who had undergone similar life situation. It
helped me to add frames of life in the film”, he added. While asked about the
‘New Generation’ trends in Malayalam films, Sivan responded that
experimentation actually occurs in the technical area while the content, which
is to have the most importance, still remains the same old age one.
